Started with Karate Academy in 2005. With a history of karate dating back to 1988, I wanted something with more detail, something to give me another 30 years of learning ahead and not just 'keep doing the same stuff'.
Glenn Shihan has opened the doors to Japan and the best in the business. The club focusses on technique and inside understanding, not just the external kata-chi.

Sensei is always inspiring and encouraging. Very willing and able to answer questions with patience and has a great level of knowledge of all aspects of traditional and sports karate. So really able to support students of all ages in their karate journey. Instrumental in negotiating and maintaining connections with Japanese Sensei to further higher level training as well.

I started my martial arts training in 1993, predominantly in Shotokan Karate, and then after a number of years began practicing Kyokushin Karate (full contact Karate). As time passed, and as my club grew, I was looking for a new challenge. My original instructor suggested I train with Shihan Glenn Stephenson at Goju-Ryu Karate. I have never looked back. The entire club have welcomed me with open arms and I am learning new techniques and movements that compliment and enhance the training I have already undertaken.
If you are looking to begin training in Karate, or have already achieved a black belt and are looking for a new challenge, I would highly recommend coming and doing a class or two. You will not be disappointed with the extremely high standard of Karate practiced here and the warm welcome you will receive.
