Acacia Cottage

Rustic cottage in spectacular setting.

My wife and I stayed in Acacia Cottage (within Peregrines, Table Top Mountain) for two nights in July 2020. It is a beautifully appointed, rustic cottage in serene and spectacular surroundings. We walked the Bimbaden Point (4kms) and Table Top (5kms) hikes — the scenery was absolutely amazing. (The Table Top walk is listed as “hard” as it requires some climbing over rocks toward the end, but the views are worth it for fit climbers).

The cottage has, in our opinion, just the right balance of rustic charm and modern conveniences. There are three rooms: (1) bedroom + lounge room, (2) kitchen + dining room, (3) bathroom + shower (no bath). The bed is comfortable, the lounge room has comfortable seating, TV & DVD, coffee table, and — importantly — a fully stocked wood fireplace. I spent both evenings reading a book in front of the fireplace. The kitchen includes gas stovetop, refrigerated Esky (no freezer), sink, all the usual pots and pans, cutlery, dishwashing liquids, etc. As well as the indoor dining table, there is also an outdoor Weber BBQ and outdoor dining area. All linen, towels, tea towels, etc were included.

The cottage is “offgrid” — a solar panel and gas cylinder power the site (though there appears to be an optional generator for conventional three-pronged power sockets, but we didn't need or use this). The wood fireplace kept the cottage toasty warm for our winter stay. There is full mobile phone coverage (Telstra), so we turned off our phones for some peace and quiet.

Booking and payment was easy, conversing directly with the owner via email and phone, with contact details found in their website. The website also has helpful directions and maps, so download/print these before you come. We were greeted with home baked slice, a bottle of wine, and roaring fireplace.

The highlight for me was the quiet, natural surrounds. Often I just sat on the deck listening to the birds. The views during our walks were breathtaking. We had clear views of the snowcapped Snowy Mountains and Falls Creek.

I would describe Acacia Cottage as rustic, peaceful, secluded, serene. Highly recommended as a romantic getaway or quiet getaway in nature. We will definately try to visit again!
