Tidal River General Store & Take Away

Was a teacher as part of a school group staying further down the road at Tidal River. Had to be picked up early due to an emergency at home. Person who was nice enough to come and grab me arrived with hardly any fuel left. Asked in the shop if they could provide any help. They contacted Marcus at Parks. He arrived in 10 minutes with a Jerry Can giving us more than enough to get to Yanakie. Just a lovely bunch of guys that were so helpful when we were in a bind. Oh, had a sweet chilli chicken wrap while I waited for Marcus that definitely hit the spot. Thanks to all who helped...it was greatly appreciated.

After reading recent reviews I decided to brave the Wilson’s prom cafe. Got served by the dreaded blonde short girl that people have spoken about, she was lovely, served me fresh crispy chips and dim sims, I said ‘thanks mate’, she said ‘you’re very welcome’, what an experience. Tourists can be pretty rude, remember you’re going out to the bush, not a local restaurant in Melbourne.

Update: Bring cash with you, they are in a remote location.

Coffee $5 - one size, with two shots. Fried food(salt and sauce located on counter for your convenience) & burgers, all made to order, salads - meditterranean (roasted pumpkin, potato, marinated capsicum & eggplant, olives & feta). Greek salad, Fruit salad. Salads also vary at times. A variety of sandwiches, falafel wraps (made daily), Fruit, cold drinks, souveniers, Maps, ice, gas swap. Queues can be long, (the staff are helpful and friendly) but the food is worth the wait.

I LOVE how environmentally friendly this place is! No plastic bottled drinks or utensils and all salad is packed in reusable containers for customers to take home! The price is fair at the same time. Brilliant!!

Yum and good deal.

Considering the volume of coffees this lovely crew make in a morning, they make a great latte. The general store has a few necessities that you may have forgotten when packing. And of course a good ice cream/icypole selection in the freezer.

Very happy with the fish and squid. Coming from Perth I could never get anything this good. Fish is only $6.50 and calamari rings $1.50 each. Very worth it. Not too oily and the fish isn’t dry at all.

Surprisingly good for a parks cafe. Well organised food and coffee area. The coffee is decent and the fish and chips are also very nice. The shop has a nice range of gifts that are not too tacky and basic camping supplies. If they don’t have it you probably don’t need it.

Being the only place to shop and eat for miles and miles around, I almost expected a "take it or leave it" attitude but boy was i wrong!!
Very friendly service with lots of smiles and humour to very very high quality food at the takeaway.
Arrived here hungry and thirsty with the whole family and was given a good feed and made to smile for a good day all around that we were having!!

This is the only eatery in Wilson's prom and a decent one at that 😀

expected the food to be expensive but was normal prices. we bet the rush so there was no wait for us. no complaints

The only main shop/take away in the area. Can't fault the Calamari Rings + Chips at $10 (includes chicken salt + tartare sauce). Toasted wrap was okay. Relatively busy (10-15 minute wait) on a summer Monday; they did provide a boomerang service to help with the wait time (a buzzer that lets you know when food is ready). The souvenir penny stamping machine was not working though the staff were helpful enough to fix it for us; if you see pennies stuck on the transparent plastic guide then good chance putting your $2 in will result in nothing (ask staff for help).

They stock the usual general store stuff along with fresh made to order food. They close early on Sundays (around 4 pm) and we reached at closing time but they not only let us in and took our orders for fish and chips (which are cooked to order) but also gave us tomato/tartar sauces for free which are usually charged.
Covered picnic tables, big parking lot with public bathrooms next door. Lookout and you might even spot a Kookaburra or two!

The whole family had a great dinner from the take away last night. The burgers are excellent and the staff so lovely and helpfull. The prices were good considering that you are in middle of nowhere, cheaper than other seaside places

Nice range of what you may need while camping , prices weren't as bad as expected either. Although $6 for 6 plain bread rolls is a bit steep.

They're closing earlier than usual due to lack of staff. The lady was willing to still help us even while. They were packing up. Not the cheapest F&C but what would you expect being out in the middle of nowhere.

Great to have these facilities in an isolated area. Had a great coffee and friendly service. Well done!

Loved it! Coffee, Chips, Burgers and Soup 🤩 In-short everything you can dream of at such a beautiful location. Reasonably priced store.

We've been here last week and ordered 2 Prom Burgers for 11$ each and a big bag of chips for 5$. This was one of the best burgers in Australia.

Be prepared that there might be a lot of people and no free parking slots during lunch time.
