Lord Howe Environmental Tours are brilliant. Dean has a wealth of knowledge about the reef and is clearly passionate about protecting the environment. We went on both their Coral Viewing Tour and their Ultimate Snorkel Tour. Both highly recommended. If you like snorkelling the latter is awesome. Dean and Kayla have extensive knowledge of local conditions to help give you the best possible experience with respect to tides/visibility wind etc. Dean’s gave us excellent insight into the uniqueness of the reef at LHI and the varieties of fish and marine life that inhabit it and the impacts of rising ocean temperatures. Not to be missed.

I had a great day climbing Mt Gower with Kayla H. She is very knowledgeable, helpful, capable and extremely fit. Physically it’s a demanding day but 9 members of our group of 10, from a variety of age groups, made it to the summit and back. Before signing on to undertake the climb we were fully informed to understand the difficulty of the climb and the pace that would be set. It was tough climbing Mt Gower but definitely gives a great sense of achievement. As I was the oldest on the day at age 65 it should be noted that if you are physically fit, love climbing, and knees are in good shape, and no heart issues, you can stay up with the pace.

Only two of our number opted to hop in the water; the rest of us viewed the goings-on under the boat through its glass bottom (kept nice and clean by the skipper!). He also kept us well informed about the state of the reef and knew just the right spots to visit. A warm footbath and cuppa welcomed us back to base once the tour was over.

My husband and I climbed Mt Gower with Dean last week. We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the climb, even though there was cloud at the top! Dean was friendly, professional and very knowledgeable of the island and the mount. There were only 7 of us in the group, which felt like a perfect size. We left at 7.00am and returned around 3.00pm. It didn't feel rushed at all as some previous reviews have suggested. I would definitely recommend if you are of reasonable fitness!

We thoroughly enjoyed our walk and snorkelling tours with Dean and Kayla. Even though we were very disappointed the LHI Board decided on our 3rd day to close all the walks we had come to the island to do, Dean did his best to keep our group happy and occupied. Dean and Kayla constantly shared their impressive and exhaustive knowledge on everything to do with the environment and history of LHI. They were also very careful to ensure our safety and protect the environment. Highly recommended.

This company were really helpful, efficient and went the extra mile. We had a Mt Gower trek booked with them but it was cancelled due to heavy rain on the previous two days, so we booked on their snorkel trip. They managed to give us a wonderful snorkeling experience at two really good sites with lots of fish, coral and other creatures. At the starting point for the second site my camera came off its strap and fell into a deep hole which was cloudy so we could not see it. I thought it was gone forever along with the photos I had managed to take at the first site. However, a week later I received advice that they had found and retrieved it (surprisingly it still worked) and they are shipping it back to me. Such a surprising and wonderful outcome. I am really grateful to the staff member who went to the effort of looking for and retrieving my camera.
The trip was also really well run, instructions were clear and I felt safe and comfortable the whole time. I would highly recommend booking on their trips if you get the chance to visit this spectacular place.

Spent a week on Lord Howe Island and used only this service during our whole stay. We joined the Mt. Gower tour and hired kayaks, SUPs.

The Mt. Gower tour was conducted professionally by Kayla and we had no issues. No one felt left out during the day.

The service from Georgina for our equipment hire was superb as she was attentive and very friendly.

Could not fault my experience with them during my time on the island. Highly recommended.

We did the trek up Mt Gower with Dean who is a very personable and fit guide, who has been a ranger on the island for years and knows stuff. During the walk Dean explained a lot about the animals plants (many endemic species) and geology which i loved. He kept us at a good pace, it was a tough walk and rock climb and he adjusted to the groups ability. Dean also took us on a reef snorkelling tour, he is also very knowledgable about coral and fish and the ocean. It is a family business, grandma, grandpa, Dean and kids are all involved, so great to see. The word environmental means something to these guys, they live it, and share the best of lord howe.

Did the Mt Gower Trek.
It was a hard slog and I hated every second of it but it was good fun, a great adventure and the guides were lovely.

Mt Gower is a big day out! We were fortunate to have a good day for our walk, weather-wise. We had been warned beforehand that Kayla sets “quite the pace”, and seems to have a reputation for doing the walk/climb there and back in a shorter time than other guides. While she was lovely, passionate about the island and had lots of good information about the plants, the pace was indeed fast - no time for photos or looking around much, and sure enough, our group was back at the bus a little after 3.00pm (compared to 4.00 or 4.30pm for another group that we talked to of similar size). I decided at a spot called the saddle that I wasn’t going to be able to keep up on the big rope section and do the climb and descent safely. It wasn’t so much difficulty as the pace, and I was apprehensive about the rope sections ahead. Kayla encouraged me to go to the first rope section and see how I found it, but I felt I knew my own limits at that pace. I do wonder if the extra hour would have made a difference to my decision or what I could have achieved….

My husband stopped with me while the rest of the group went on, and we were allowed to walk back to the creek to wait there. For us, this was a highlight and really wonderful part of the day as we thoroughly enjoyed the plant life, mosses and fungi and we could take more time to do so on that part of the descent. It was good talking to Kayla and other group members afterwards to know that we really hadn’t missed out in terms of the view that we had from the saddle (and that the ropes had been a challenge for all the others!), just that sense of achievement of completing the summit - but we absolutely loved our version of Mt Gower.

I feel really let down by the Guide Kayla at Enviro Tours. She's a powerhouse & champion at climbing Mt Gower. Only few will meet her fitness. This trip was all about speed & athletic ability. We were ahead of time by two hours and she would not allow me to proceed to summit & another hiker was too disillusioned to continue (even though we were ahead of schedule by 25min at the Saddle!). The other hiker & I were constantly clueless to where the path was because Kayla had run off ahead. When we arrived back at the vehicle by 1.30pm (from a 7.30am start), it was admitted that Kayla & her Mum had to run off because they had cake to bake. I was advised that this hike/climb would take a minimum of 8hrs and it only took 6hrs.
