Tower Hill Cemetery

A beautiful place now my own mothers final resting place. Joining Her mother and father twin sister and infant brother. Rest in peace beautiful mother xx

We found the cemetary looking for the tower itself. As we read the headstones, we realised that there must have been a sizeable Irish contingent in the area at the time. The school next door let out while we were there and we were pleasantly surprised to see that none of the students cut through the cemetary. The spot could benefit from having a historical plaque.

Tower Hill is on the land of Easter Maar traditional owners.
This graveyard was established in 1856 and is still in use. It has many historical graves still in good readable condition. The names on headstones tell the story of the predominantly Irish farmers who 'settled' the area. Parking is either on the side of the highway out front, or a small car park at the back. The back part of the yard is fairly steep. There is a dirt road through the yard but there are no paved paths, and the ground is uneven and lumpy in places so it will be difficult for people with limited mobility in those areas. There is a public toilet at the top entrance, but no drinking water, no seating and no shade.
