West Peak (Mt Barney)

What an epic walk, I went up and down via the South Ridge route, this way I avoided the extra exhaustion of also doing the East Peak via the South East Ridge. There is not a 360 deg panorama like you get at the top of East Peak, but don't let that put you off, the views back towards East Peak are superb, and once at the top you can get through the bush to find fantastic views. The path is not as well worn as the East Peak, which can be a good thing because you can get this magnificent mountain all to yourself. Definitely put it on your bucket list for South East Queensland mountains to climb. Actually the climb from Rum Jungle campsite is pretty easy if you don't lose the track, and it's pretty obvious where you want to end up to be honest.

Leg burner. Stunning views. There are some tracks leading to the top but to be honest not clear.

Don't be too worried though as you just need to scope the area as you are going and keep hiking up😊

My partner took me up this mountain as it is his favourite mountain to climb. We camped overnight there and summited west peak the next morning in just under an hour! We followed south ridge up and down the mountain. Stunning views along the mountain and at west peak. Definitely a climb for those who are fit. Easily doable in a day if you’re a fast walker up a steep incline as well

View was draw dropping. Walk up is not very clear but aim for the top and you'll be fine

A nice place to hike up to. Many of the routes to the the top are well worn and easy to scramble up.
